Yes, in the standalone version: it starts a 7 day free trial the first time you run it. The Mac App Store version does not include a trial.

Unfold supports macOS 15.6 (Sequoia) and newer.

Each direct-download license covers up to 3 devices. Mac App Store purchases are licensed through Apple and tied to your Apple ID, so that limit does not apply.

Unfold cannot preview certain file types because macOS already provides built-in Quick Look support for them. This includes formats such as plain text (.txt, .text), rich text (.rtf, .rtfd), HTML/web archives (.html, .webarchive), TypeScript (.ts), Adobe files (.pdf, .eps), Microsoft Office documents (.csv, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx), OpenDocument files (.odt, .ods, .odp), and Apple iWork documents (.pages, .numbers, .key). Unfold focuses on adding previews for formats that macOS does not natively support.

macOS protects certain locations, including Downloads, Pictures, Music, Movies, and some external drives. When Quick Look previews a folder in one of these locations, the system may ask for permission more often. To help prevent persistent permission dialogs, allow Unfold full access in Full Disk Access settings.

No. Unfold does not collect personal information or usage data, and your files never leave your Mac. This is corroborated in our privacy policy.
